As a practical and solution-oriented therapist, I will work with you to better understand and resolve challenges in your life – whether they are long standing patterns resulting from life histories, or a practical, “in the moment” problem arising from the stressors of daily life. My warm and accepting style will help guide you through life’s difficult terrain.
My approach is collaborative and interactive, which lowers the challenge of exploring the many facets of one’s personality. I work with stress, anxiety and depression as well as difficulties associated with emotional regulation. In addition, I have worked with grief/loss, couples counseling, domestic violence, behavioral problems, cross cultural/diversity education along with motivation and wellness issues. I have extensive experience with life transitions and relationship issues and enjoy working with families and couples. Due to my extensive work with people with major mental health diagnoses, I have a great deal of experience counseling their family members and can assist with the navigation through various social systems that can otherwise be confusing and frustrating. I am also ready to provide support with people with chronic health issues, as I am familiar with the local healthcare resources. I am a graduate of Washington University of St. Louis and The University of Akron where I interned at LifeCare Hospice and Summa Wadsworth Hospital. As the Director of Employment Services at The Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties, I developed a particular interest in career issues.
I enjoy working with children, teens and adults of all ages. What ever your reasons for seeking therapy, I will provide you with a personal plan to meet your specific needs. I have day and evening office hours and can be reached at (330) 345-8450 to schedule an appointment.

"I have experiences in health care settings and a mental health and substance abuse center that has allowed me to extensively work with both youth and adults encountering various life stressors. Examples of these include, but are not limited to, alcohol and/or other drug use issues, perinatal issues, parenting issues, marital discord, physical/emotional/sexual abuse, bullying, various adjustment issues, chronic and/or life-limiting health issues and grief from losses including divorce and expected or unexpected death(s) related to miscarriage, accident, suicide, homicide, and illness.
I also provide support when experiencing any undesired feelings and behaviors that significantly affect relationships, school or job performance or one's overall functioning on a daily basis. If one has undesired thoughts or behaviors, it is can be due to a current hurt, or due to being over adaptive due to one's painful past hurts. Either way, there are proven strategies I teach to help. If due to past hurts, I can also help one gain awareness of his/her 'story' to better understand these undesired thoughts and behaviors, and how incredibly appropriate these were in the past when he/she needed them. This is accomplished using a therapeutic exercise in trauma-informed treatment to connect to the past to help understand the present. When we gain self-awareness, our hurts don't necessarily go away, but our feelings of 'craziness' for having those thoughts can lessen and bring a greater sense of peace.
It is my belief that each and every person has the capacity for healing, and that seeking mental health support for emotional pain should be just as common as seeing a regular doctor when you have physical pain. If you or someone you care about are ready to stop hurting, and have questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to contact me. I will have both daytime and evening appointments for your scheduling convenience." To inquire about scheduling an appointment with Anissa, please call (330)345-8450.
